The Challenge
IT challenges for a not-for-profit hospital on the Mornington Peninsula

The Bays Healthcare needed IT support that keeps patient care moving across two sites, protects sensitive health information and delivers real value to a community-owned hospital.
The Bays started as a bush nursing hospital in 1937. Today it’s an independent, community-owned hospital running The Bays Hospital and Cancer Care Centre in Mornington and The Bays Dialysis Unit in Hastings, with surgery, maternity, a high dependency unit, cancer care and dialysis all on its books.
If you run a hospital, clinic or aged care service, you’ll know the feeling. When something stops working, it’s not an inconvenience. It’s a nurse who can’t open a chart, or a patient left waiting.
01
When IT stops, care slows down
Theatres, wards and clinics run every day. A locked account at the start of a shift isn’t a minor hassle. Staff need someone to pick up the phone and fix it now, not log a ticket and hope.
02
Two sites, the same expectations
Staff at the Mornington hospital and Cancer Care Centre expect the same quick help as the team at the Hastings Dialysis Unit. Support has to work wherever people are.
03
Patient information has to stay safe
Health records are some of the most sensitive data there is. The hospital needed real cybersecurity expertise on hand, not just someone to reset passwords.
04
Technology that delivers real value
As a community-owned, not-for-profit hospital, The Bays puts its resources where they matter most: patient care. Its IT needs to be dependable, practical and worth every dollar invested.
Services
What we look after
Helpdesk
First-level support for staff across The Bays. When someone needs a hand, they talk to a tech they already know.
Managed servers
We manage The Bays’ servers, so the systems behind care for more than 13,700 patients a year keep running in the background.
Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity expertise on hand, so The Bays has specialist advice when it needs it.

Hastings

The best thing about working with Extreme is their personability. They’re very easy to talk to, very proactive.

Day to day
IT that feels like part of the hospital
On a first-name basis
People around the hospital know our techs by name, and our techs know them.
On site every week
We visit The Bays once a week, and staff look forward to seeing us.
A team, not one tech
A few different techs rotate through The Bays, so staff get to know the whole team.
Easy to talk to
Approachable and proactive, the two things Peter values most about working with us.

“They’re very well liked around the hospital, as people are on a first name basis with the techs. Most people look forward to their visits once a week.”
Peter Owens, The Bays Healthcare
